Types of Australia work visas

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa

A temporary skill shortage visa, also known as Subclass 482, allows people to live and work in Australia for four years. An Australian employer must sponsor the candidates to apply for this visa. Candidates must have professional skills and experience relevant to the job vacancy that they have applied for.

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa or TSS visa holders can work in Australia under any one of the three streams given below:

  • The Short-Term stream

  • The Medium-Term stream

  • The Labour Agreement stream

 

Employer Scheme Visa

An Employer Nomination Scheme visa has been introduced for employers who want to sponsor skilled workers to live and work in Australia permanently. Applicants have to possess relevant qualifications and work experience for the job that they have applied for. The occupation that candidates have applied for should be an eligible skilled occupation included in the combined list of eligible skilled occupations. Another name of this visa is Subclass 186.

There are three streams for this visa, which include:

  • Temporary Residence Transition Stream

  • Direct Entry Stream

  • Agreement Stream

Requirements for Australia work visa

Australia has many work visas, each with separate requirements. Some of the requirements are based on the points system. Employers will need a visa depending on the type of work they have been invited to and the duration they want to stay in the country.

Employees who have applied for an ENS visa must show the skills needed for a particular job through skills assessment.

 

Other requirements to get a work visa are as follows:

English proficiency: Candidates must prove their English language proficiency through the IELTS exam. The exam is based on the band system, and candidates have to score at least 6 to be eligible to apply for a visa.

Occupation in SOL: The occupation for which candidates are invited should be available in the Skilled Occupation List of Australia.

Skill and Experience: Candidates need to have the skills and experience for the occupation for which invitations have been sent.

Skill Assessment: Skills assessment has to be done through an approved assessing authority. This includes the following:

  • CS

  • AACA

  • VETASSESS

Medical and PCC: Candidates must provide medical and character certificates and meet the criteria for both of these certificates.

 

Other criteria

  • Candidates need to have at least three years of experience.

  • The age of the candidates should be below 45 years.

  • Candidates have to read the booklet of Life in Australia
